Congratulations to a MPA member Tess James, the recipient of the Henry Rongomau Bennett 2015 Scholarship. Ka pai Tess!
The Henry Rongomau Bennett Foundation Scholarship is a tribute to Henry Bennett’s life and work as the first Māori Psychiatrist in Aotearoa. The purpose of the scholarship is to develop and build:
• Māori Leadership in Health
• Competence in Te Ao Māori and
• Excellence in Health.
Currently working in the Taranaki region, Tess is a clinical pharmacist with Midlands Health Network, the primary health organisation that supports Taranaki GP practices. She now have a pharmacist clinic in each Taranaki GP practice where she educated patients about their medicines, completes a medicines therapy assessment which reviews patient’s long term medicines, any adverse effects or potential alterations to improve patient’s safety. She is also studying to complete her post-graduate diploma in applied clinical pharmacy.
“Having the privilege of being a recipient of the Henry Rongomau Bennett Scholarship is a great opportunity, and I hope that other Māori are inspired to study Pharmacy as a career, as we are underrepresented in this profession, and have so much to offer to healthcare”.
